Many Eastern States, as well as much of Canada, rely on road salts to prevent ice formation. While this enhances safety, road salt is one of the most corrosive substances for chrome finishes. When combined with sand, it erodes the chrome's surface and initiates a process that, if left unchecked, can lead to premature coating failure. Road salt causes pitting, which eventually results in rust. In fact, we use this very process in our lab to test the durability of our plating. 

The first step in protecting your chrome is to thoroughly wash your bumper and chrome accessories to remove any existing salt or grime. Next, apply high-quality wax. There are numerous products available, but we recommend using a premium paste wax designed for automotive paint. These waxes contain properties that help liquids bead and run off the surface.
